On the front of the High Tatras in 1946 began to write history of large Poprad, which is the consciousness of people in Slovakia, but also the consciousness of the international community is enrolled as a gateway to Europe's smallest big mountains.
Location and climate
Poprad is situated in a broad valley on both sides of the river Poprad. To the north of the city lies a massive of Belianske Tatry and Vysoké Tatry, on the east side Levočské pohorie, on south low ridges of
Kozie chrbty, and the west highlands of Štrbské rozvodie. Poprad is in a slightly warm area with the average number of days in the summer. The climate of Poprad is largely influenced by the neighboring region of Vysoké Tatry, which belongs to the cold climate areas.

Tourist attractions
The most important monument in the center of Poprad is Spisska Sobota. The greatest monument is the church of sv. Juraj with five wing altars and main altar of Master Paul of Levoča. In the center of Poprad is early gothic church of Egidius with the oldest picture of the Tatras.

Poprad and its surroundings provide for each visitor a unique opportunity to discover natural, historical and cultural monuments. When you go to any world side of Poprad, its gates will be open national parks: Tatra National Park, Low Tatras National Park with majestic Kralova hola, National Park Slovak Paradise and Pieniny National Park.
